A music video documentary

WAR (1994) is a video documentary made by using a combination of still photographs, computer-generated drawings, and video clips. By taking photos from various issues of National Geographic Magazine, a book on Pearl Harbor (Pearl Harbor - The Way it Was; published in Hong Kong by Island Heritage Limited, 1977), and film clips from various sources, I tried to produce a thought-provoking piece on the horrors of war. I scanned or video captured the images on a PC with a Targa 2000 video board and transferred the files to a Macintosh, and either left them as is or converted them to black and white and drew color interpretations using Adobe Photoshop and Fractal Design Painter. I made this video for a coffeehouse at my school, and obtained permission from National Geographic and the other sources to use the original material solely for educational, non-profit purposes.

The final video was editted with Adobe Premiere on a PC and output as an SVHS video with the Targa 2000. A clip is available here.

WAR was used in a film course at Northwestern University and in 1995 was shown in a museum at the University of Technology in Munich, Germany, as an example of combined technology and art.
